Description
Towards the end of the 1970s, roots reggae and dub music made their way into Japan, and, as was the case in Europe, dub music had a particular way of spreading itself out into a wide range of genres. Bands started to reflect dub music in their style, and dub also made its mark on jazz musicians, as well as electronic music producers. In this episode Masaaki Hara digs into the dub music that inspired and invigorated everybody from hip hop artists to rock bands like Fishmans, and it’s fair to say that dub music has been a key element in the development of Japanese music as a whole.
