Here we go again, Kirk’s back on it. This time the Sound Obsession authority gives it up for legendary R&B funkateers Mtume and Lucas. While both, bandleader, percussionist and name patron James Mtume and Reggie Lucas started out under the wings of Miles Davis during his fusion phase, their own Mtume outfit released six critically acclaimed albums, and produced songs for the likes of Stephanie Mills, Roberta Flack or Donny Hathaway. After decades of serving hit after hit, most notably the sampled-to-death "Juicy Fruit" and "You, Me And He", both individually stayed on the production tip, helping out artists like Madonna (Lucas) or Roy Ayers and Bar-Kays (Mtume). Apart from that, James Mtume also branched out to become a well-respected radio personality on Kiss FM. Kirk gives us a guided tour through their vast body of work.
