Description
Scotland is currently experiencing a cross-pollination between the art school and rave communities, which has resulted in a new scene of collectives that are creating electronic music with a fusion of analog and digital instruments and forming live bands with vocalists. Performing at house parties, venues and club spaces, these artists represent a new wave of punk and DIY spirit coursing through the underground dance music of Scotland. Today we'll hear Lauren Martin in conversation with some of the scene's influential characters. First she speaks with Michael Kasparis of Night School Records, the Glasgow-based label that has released music from Molly Nilsson and Julia Holter. We'll then hear from LAPS — Ladies as Pimps — the Glaswegian duo breaking sonic boundaries with clashing percussion, riotous vocals and beats pulled every which way through house, R&B and dub.
