Thao Nguyen is best known as the charming frontwoman to the infectiously off-kilter indie rock band Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. However the singer/guitarist recently announced her new role as host of the popular podcast Song Exploder, which invites musicians of all backgrounds to dismantle and analyze a single track of their own. Now in its sixth season, the podcast — created and originally hosted by Hrishikesh Hirway (who remains on as executive producer) — has broken down tracks with Solange, St. Vincent, John Carpenter, the Roots and many many more. Nguyen calls Vivian today to chat about the honor of this undertaking — she highlights some of her favorite past episodes and dreams up an ideal guest list.
