Over the last two decades, Kansas City, Missouri's Cody Critcheloe has made a name for himself with punk humor, tack-sharp wit and campy exuberance. As a visual artist and videographer, his Dadaistic take on the world has found him working with Charli XCX, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Perfume Genius and Hood By Air; meanwhile, his on-again/off-again musical alias SSION has been a place to fuse glam rock and modern electro with the kind of otherworldly drag that would bring a wry smile to Leigh Bowery's outsize lips. Though Critcheloe thought SSION was done, he returns this spring with _O_, a new "glam/soft rock album with a psychedelic twist" that includes collaborations with Ariel Pink and Teengirl Fantasy's Nick Weiss, who co-produced. Critcheloe – who is now based in NYC – joins Vivian to discuss the Pink Floyd cow, touring with Beth Ditto and the creative process behind the new record.
