Description
_Sonic Arcade: Shaping Space with Sound_ is a new show at New York City’s Museum of Arts and Design that explores the idea of making sound tangible and touchable – the interactive exhibition sits at the crossroads of music-making, craft, technology and physical space. We talk to MAD curator Shannon Stratton about different ways of making sound material and why hearing is such an important sense to cultivate in our visual climate. We then talk with artists whose work is featured in _Sonic Arcade_: Birch Cooper and Brenna Murphy of Oregon collective MSHR talk about building a giant interactive synthesizer; Julianne Swarz explores the effect that sine-wave feedback loops have on the body; and Chicago's Jeff Kolar explores the mundane and the sublime while taking radio art into new territories. We'll also hear some boundary-pushing music pieces both modern and classic, while Vivian delves into the sonic grandeur and visceral power of Sunn O))) for Viv's Picks.
