The music and aesthetics of Karl O'Connor – best known as Regis – has had a huge influence on the resurgence of dark, cold, industrial-inspired techno of the last few years. Working with the similarly-inspired Silent Servant, Function and Surgeon as part of outfits like Downwards, Sandwell District and Jealous God, O'Connor's uncompromising synth sculpting, venomous loops and distorted pummeling have sent thousands of copycat drones reeling to their modulars in worship. Karl joins us in studio ahead of this weekend's live set at Elsewhere in Brooklyn to talk growing up in Birmingham in the UK, his current compulsions and the ins and outs of drones, atonal loops and machine-made chaos.
