Harley Brown fills in for Vivian Host on Peak Time today, with a heart-to-heart with Boston-based singer/songwriter Ellen Kempner of Palehound. On albums like her 2015 debut _Dry Food_ and last year's _A Place I'll Always Go_ , Kempner displays a gift for self-aware lyrics that cut to the quick about love, loss, anxiety and alienation; and she has a knack for pairing these emotional confessionals with a jangly, stripped back '90s-style rock that really lets her dusky voice cut through.
