Guest host Eddie Cepeda will take us on a sonic journey through the ages of emo, tracing its evolution from angsty bedroom confessionals to radio pop hits and hip-hop-inflected lamentations. With its so-called revival, the genre has opened up to include new ideas and sounds, and the very definition of what constitutes emo has changed, thanks to the likes of ILoveMakkonen, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Peep and Princess Nokia, among others. In the first half of the show, Eddie will discuss the roots of emo with Norman Brannon, founder of the now disbanded group Texas Is the Reason. The band, whose name is lifted from Misfit's "Bullet," is considered one of the cornerstones of the post-hardcore/emo movement of the '90s — Bannon comes armed with tales of the early day of the genre and his take on its current status. In the latter half of the show the new generation of emo will be repped by Brooklyn's Great Wight, who just released an emotionally unfettered debut, _The Suburbs Have Ruined My Life_.
