South African art-pop artist Nakhane creates expansive, bold songs that incorporate electronic pop, choral and gospel movements, highlife guitars and falsetto soul and R&B. All of these maneuvers are in service of highlighting the greater themes of his new album, _You Will Not Die_, which is an exploration of coming out and his long journey toward self-acceptance, artistic freedom and cultural identity. On today's show, Vivian speaks to Nakhane about the album — released worldwide on February 22 — his influences, dreams and the incredible life experiences that have shaped his work.
