The stars aligned one night many years ago for a young musician named Edward Larry Gordon. Performing his Eastern Mysticism-influenced brand of ambient music in Washington Square Park, Gordon caught the ear of Brian Eno, and Eno invited Gordon, henceforth known as Laraaji, to contribute to his seminal ambient series. The result was Laraaji's most important album, _Ambient 3: Day of Radiance_. Since that fateful night, the multi-instrumentalist and spiritual mystic has become one of the foremost pioneers in the genre. Today, coming off of Eno's _Ambient 1: Music for Airports_ 40th anniversary, Laraaji will join Vivian to discuss his life's sonic journey, the effects of laughter on the soul, his instrumental reconstructions and an upcoming performance in the otherworldly city of Marfa, Texas, for the Marfa Myths festival. Later, we'll take a look at Sónar Istanbul — which takes place this weekend – and play music from some artists who are playing.
