Today's guest host Thea Ballard speaks with avant-garde multidisciplinary artist Kayla Guthrie. The NYC-based Guthrie, who has exhibited and performed at a variety of music and art venues, charts emotional structures and introspective landscapes through her music, writing and visual art. Her self-defined musical spirit is influenced by the No Wave era and spoken-word poetry, as well as by artists like Laurie Anderson who seamlessly weave disparate elements together. Guthrie's resulting sound is something very personal, causing _The Wire_ to designate her 2015 EP _Blue_ as "a twilight zone both lyrically and conceptually... as if Guthrie's thoughts and words coincide with an atmosphere that she contingently occupies for this moment." Guthrie's latest sonic exploration comes in the form of a new EP, _Falling Star_ — she will release it next month on the recently relaunched avant label Wild Flesh. She'll speak with Thea about this latest record.
