The city of Bristol in Southwest England has a rich history of roots reggae, drum & bass and punk and to a degree there's no local duo that embodies the renegade spirit of all those musics more than Kahn & Neek. A listen to their editions of the *Essential Mix* and *Fabriclive* series reveals their willingness to push dubstep and grime beyond their traditional boundaries, weaving in influences from goth, ambient, far-out rap and deep dup and dancehall. As Kahn & Neek, Joe McGann and Sam Barrett have released a series of heavy stormers for labels like Deep Medi, Punch Drunk and their own Bandulu Records; they also operate sound system reggae project Gorgon Sound and are pivotal members of the eclectic Young Echo crew. Not to ignore their solo work, which includes Kahn's beautifully dark acoustic guitar works and producing for Tricky and Neek's paintings and screwed slo-mo beat tapes with Amos Childs as O$vmv$m.
