Ka Baird is an experimental artist based in New York City whose solo work includes an eclectic array of piano improvisations, electroacoustic intervention, extended vocal technique, physical movement and electronically-processed flute playing. Baird is a cofounder of Chicago avant-folk outfit Spires That In the Sunset Rise, and here she discusses her solo debut, _Sapropelic Pycnic_ (Drag City), conceived as a series of solo live vignettes and inspired by the theory that life began in a soup of primordial, molecular ooze. Peak Time also welcomes Grant Aaron, founder of New York City's Mysteries of the Deep, which has evolved from ambient-focused parties, chill-out rooms and a podcast into a record label. Oliver Chapoy of Certain Creatures (Blackest Ever Black/Styles Upon Styles), who has the inaugural release on MOTD, joins Grant to talk about the mind-expanding properties of weird, heady electronics.
