Jan Schulte may live in the decidedly un-tropical German city of Düsseldorf, but he has a fascination with tribal drums and humid climates: "I have this dream of living 3,000 years ago and being fascinated by the sun and taking all my energy from nature,” he recently told Bandcamp. Under aliases like Bufiman and Wolf Müller, and as part of the group Montezumas Rache, Schulte whips primordial elements into "fourth world" dancefloor tracks of the Balearic, trippy and hypnotic variety, for labels like Music for Dreams, Dekmantel and Versatile. He stops by our Cologne studio to talk about ritualistic dance, his Salon des Amateurs residency and his new album with drummer and percussionist Niklas Wandt.
