At the young age of 16, Puerto Rico's iLe, real name Ileana Mercedes Cabra Joglar, started her music career when she joined Calle 13, the alternative hip-hip duo of her brothers René Pérez Joglar ("Residente") and Eduardo Cabra Joglar ("Visitante"). After writing and recording with the group as its sole female voice for ten years, she released her debut solo album, _Ilevitable_, in 2016. Continuing in the footsteps of Calle 13, iLe tackles themes of political and sexual oppression, human migration and ageism, while tipping her hat to the traditional music of Latin America. She's on Peak Time today to discuss her unusual career, her homeland and what's influencing the music she's currently creating. We'll also be playing some new music and listening to a preview of tomorrow's Alumni Mix from Sign Libra.
