_new breed_ is the powerful new album from DAWN (the singular artist moniker of Dawn Richard), a feminist R&B statement that travels everywhere from Rihanna-type hard bops to avant-garde soul-funk excursions. Raised in New Orleans' 9th Ward and a member of Bad Boy Records girl group Danity Kane, Dawn's solo trajectory has been uniquely flavored and at times misunderstood – her albums have refused to settle into any predictable R&B grooves, reflecting her ever-changing visions and her broad taste. On today's show, _Peak Time_ correspondent Harley Brown sits down with DAWN to find out more about the life events that inspired _new breed_. We also pay tribute to Nacho Nava, the fixture of L.A. queer nightlife and Mustache Mondays promoter who passed away on Saturday; we'll hear Nacho conversing about his work with Mexico City's NAAFI crew.
