East London MC D Double E has been repping the UK Grime sound since before the term was even coined. As part of the N.A.S.T.Y. Crew's original lineup - founder Marcus Nasty and Kano, Jammer Footsie, Monkey, Stormin, Mak 10, Sharky Major & Hyper - D Double E drew from Garage, Jungle, DnB, and Bashment to lay the bricks for what would evolve into the Grime sound we know today. In the early aughts, he and fellow member Footsie splintered to form Newham Generals who eventually signed to Dirtee Stank, the label of Dizzee Rascal who coincidentally credits D for inspiring him to rap. Over the years his sound has become unmistakable; unique vocals, twisting idiosyncratic lyrics and original ad-libs in a rapid-fire, rat-a-tat-tat flow, only occasionally slowing his pace to let the beat catch up. Incredibly, in his impressive run, which has also included collaborations with Wiley and Sir Spyro among others, D Double E had not released a solo album, until late last year.
