João Barbosa AKA Branko first became known on the international scene as the driving production force behind Buraka Som Sistema, the seminal collective that reshaped the underground sounds of the Portuguese diaspora into a festival pop phenomenon. Since then, he’s been traveling the world making legions of dancers lose their heads with a potent brew of forward-thinking tropical club sounds: baile funk, kuduro, zouk, kizomba and beyond. In the spirit of the collective, he founded label Enchufada, now nearly 15 years old. This Friday, Branko releases his inclusive new album, _Nosso_, which features collaborations with the likes of Dino D'Santiago, Dengue Dengue Dengue and Miles from Kinshasa. Today, Branko calls in from his bed in Lisbon to discuss the ethos of the record and talk us through the stories of individual tracks.
