Conceptually and spiritually, rapper Bohan Phoenix has split his life between East and West, musically reconciling the two on releases like his _Foreign_ EP and _Jala_, whose title plays off the translation of the Chinese term for "extra spicy." Born in Hubei and raised in Massachusetts since age 11, Bohan speaks the _lingua franca_ of trap – booming 808 beats, an obsession with money, drugs and girls – but also uses it as a springboard for addressing cultural and identity issues; as his Twitter bio proclaims, he is "too foreign for here, too foreign for home." Vivian talks to Bohan about his new project, _Overseas_ (featuring a global cast of producers including Ryan Hemsworth and Yllis), bilingual rapping and his homeland's hip-hop ban, among other things. We've also got some more Chinese rap music on deck from Higher Brothers, VaVa and J. Fever plus a taster of _Top Flight_ and some breaking music news.
