The TR-808 Rhythm Composer is a drum machine introduced by the Roland Corporation in 1980 and discontinued in 1983 – but with those merely 12,000 units made in the first run many amazing hits were made including Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing," Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" and New Order's "Confusion." As today is August 8, we're celebrating 808 day by celebrating that signature bass drum and those crispy hats, plus we've got 808 scions like Arthur Baker, Egyptian Lover and DJ Toomp chiming in with quotes and even some bass test CDs to get your speakers moving.
