Long before the current flux of Atlanta-bred rappers, who continue to push the hip-hop sound of the South, there was Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Records. Started in 1993, it pushed releases from Kris Kross, Xscape, Dem Franchise Boyz and Lil' Bow Wow, along with its era-defining compilation series _So So Def Bass All-Stars_ (A&Red by crunk king Lil' Jon), which collated the city's bass-driven club sounds of the late 1990s by the likes of Ghosttown DJs, Raheem the Dream, INOJ and more. This year marks the label's 25th anniversary and we'll be revisiting an interview with Jermaine Dupri from our Atlanta radio pop-up at Patchwork Studios in 2016, plus hearing the deep cuts and the best-sellers.
