Nearly one million people fled Lebanon during the civil war that tore through the country from 1975 to 1990. The musician and actress Yasmine Hamdan and her family were amongst those who sought safety abroad, and although they landed far from home, music served as a connection to the memories and spaces they left behind. Cassettes and records kept her family dancing, laughing and emboldened, and this sonic material forged a much-needed sense of belonging.
