Description
Rob Sevier is dedicated to seeking unheard sounds. Cofounder of the almighty Numero Group record label, Sevier is a lifelong sonic explorer. A family friend helped hook him on ethnography early on — ever since, the polymathic record collector has harbored a great love for field recordings. After hearing some especially captivating indigenous Venezuelan mouth harp on an album, he became fascinated with music from this under-documented South American country. In proper form, Sevier followed the faint trail, and for over a decade now, he's been accumulating an unrivaled library of obscure Venezuelan albums that highlight the country’s diverse ethnic communities. On this special episode of Open End, Sevier unveils highlights from his collection in beautiful flashes of sound, lovingly collaged. To open and close the show, Frosty offers selections from Spain, Madagascar, Slovenia, Niger, Brazil, Mexico, Cabo Verde, Mali and beyond.
