Miho Hatori has always used music as a space to reflect her unique view of the world. Cibo Matto, her longrunning band with Yuka C. Honda, merged magnetic beats with clever lyrics. She continues to create spirited mind/body music as a means to navigate the universe, and her New Optimism project is a scope through which to explore human identity and interconnectivity. Hatori’s approach has been influenced by Caribbean philosopher Édouard Glissant, as well as by NYC and her travels. New Optimism’s debut EP, _Amazon to LeFrak_, is out now on Phantom Limb. Frosty bookends Hatori’s appearance with a mix of sounds ranging from fuzzed-out Farsi funk and experimental Italian opera to Mexican cumbia, sonidera and Sierra Leonan experimentalism. The episode opens with a stunning world premiere from Ostinato Records’ new album, _Two Niles to Sing a Melody: The Violins and Synths of Sudan_.
