Young M.A is an outlier the current rap landscape. In 2016, she went viral with her hit "OOOUUU" and entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Judging from the comment section of the video, most listeners have been caught, if not disarmed, by the banal realization that a girl from Brooklyn can, of course, rhyme just as impressively and harshly about the boldness of her life as the boys. *Herstory* is the name of Young M.A's latest EP, which is an intimate narrative of her life. In her lyrics she's proven that she can brag, but she doesn't shy away from tough topics either, addressing anxiety and depression, her absentee father and the gang-related murder of her brother, Kenneth, when she was 16.
