Description
After growing up in a sheltered religious home in Florida, the teenage Tedra Wilson grew to love rap music in secret: memorizing Foxy Brown verses and dreaming of diving into this deep musical universe. Years later, Wilson became TT The Artist, having moved to Baltimore and become a singer, rapper and producer, focusing on the bubbling Baltimore club scene and regional styles of US rap and hip-hop. Today, her vocal and production style bumps hard: a heady blend of infectious Miami bass vocal licks over skittering, club-focused breakbeats; hip-hop drenched in the influence of 00s heavy-hitters like Timbaland, mixed up in the pop-inflected dance music styles of recent years. Having released her debut album Queen of the Beat in 2016 and now counting Diplo as a collaborator, TT The Artist is a force to be reckoned with. For the Philadelphia edition of United States of Bass, she shows the city what she and her neighboring hometown Baltimore is all about.
