Few have shaped our understanding of punk feminism like Kathleen Hanna. A founding member of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, her latest project The Julie Ruin sees the original riot grrrl fronting an aptly noisy bunch of pleasure seekers, comprised of Bikini Kill’s Kathi Wilcox, drummer and Le Tigre affiliate Carmine Covelli, performance artist Kenny Mellman and studio owner/guitarist Sara Landeau. The debut album of this Brooklyn-based riot supergroup went by the name of *Run Fast* and presented exactly the fast-paced, funky and humorous mission statement you would expect from this lot. And carrying the torch of the early DIY days, The Julie Ruin are independent as ever, holding full control over their output and touring schedule.
