Description
Growing up among the Caribbean community in South London meant that Matt Edwards was thrown into the deep end of carnival and clubbing, crafting trippy Balearic vibes with Dave Dorrell of M/A/R/R/S fame and landing a residency at Open, one of Ministry of Sound’s edgier club nights. By this time he had been getting deeper into the studio, exploring sluggish Detroit-inspired 4×4 as REKID, and pop re-imaginings and hard-hitting house anthems as Radio Slave (including his definitive blend of Kylie and New Order on "Can’t Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head"). At this point Matt hit his creative stride, delving into darker electronic club sounds with his Radio Slave and Machine projects, as well as his collaboration with fellow weird library record obsessive Joel Martin as Quiet Village. With a handful of label projects such as Pyramids Of Mars, and his own Rekids label, a constant stream of DJ bookings, and bringing through artists like Nina Kraviz, Matt’s free time is sparser than most.
