When Hyperdub released Quarta330’s *Sunset Dub* in 2007, it wasn’t just a nod to London’s hardcore continuum — Quarta330 was continuing a conversation begun even earlier between Yellow Magic Orchestra and Afrika Bambaataa. Tokyo’s masterful weaver of intricate electro, blissful techno, Game Boy dub and 8-bit grime made his statement clear with his followup 12”, "Sabacco", and he also teamed up with London’s bass mavericks LV. His Lo-bit Playground has proven to be one of the most forward-looking clubs not just in Tokyo, but around the world, pushing the sound of the international dancefloor into wonderful new places. These vistas include the frenetic juke-styled excursions into double-time dub and shiny digital, a signpost from the future that Hyperdub picked up on with his *Pixelated* EP.
