You won’t find many Japanese game creators with subreddits dedicated to the microscopic details of their careers, but such is the cult following that Osamu Sato has amassed. Sato is an eclectic artist who has used a number of different mediums to express himself, starting with photography and music before turning to design; in the 1990s he looked to CD-ROM technology and the opportunity to create new video game experiences. His first game, released in 1994, was called _Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong-Nou_, and what came next was something quite unlike anything before or after. _LSD: Dream Emulator_ was released exclusively in Japan in 1998 for the PlayStation, but it is only over the past decade that people have discovered the title in earnest. It’s easily one of the most experimental titles in the history of video games, and Sato created not only the game itself but also composed the forward-thinking soundtrack of leftfield electronic music and IDM.
