Ondatrópica is the musical project of Colombian musician Mario Galeano, of the band Frente Cumbiero, and English producer Will Holland, of soulful pop duo Quantic. Having met in California in 2011 and bonded over a dream of releasing a new style of Colombian music, Galeano and Holland assembled a 40-strong group of traditional and contemporary Colombian musicians in Medellín’s Discos Fuentes studios to record their 2012 debut self-titled album as Ondatrópica: native styles such as cumbia, porro, gaita and champeta weaving into sounds like hip-hop, dub, funk, ska and pop; a 100% analogue recording process adopted as a tribute to the deep history of Discos Fuentes and the sounds that have long emerged from it.
