Michael Jordan Bonema, MIKE, in short, was born in New Jersey but spent a chunk of his childhood in the London neighborhood of Hackney and just outside the city in Essex. He eventually moved to the Bronx and immersed himself in the local rap scene, becoming one of NYC's most exciting young artists to emerge. (The title of his 2017 mixtape, *May God Bless Your Hustle*, is a direct quote from his mother.) His most recent release, *Black Soap*, dropped just this week. Deja Carr, AKA Mal Devisa, comes from a musical family — her grandfather was jazz drummer Bruno Carr, who recorded with Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. In 2016 she self-released her album *Kiid* via Kickstarter; Mal Devisa’s commanding songs have the wide open, recursive feeling of jazz and blues.
