Matt "Jam" Lamont is probably the one UK garage great who can actually afford to rest on his laurels. After cutting his teeth at the legendary South London venue Sunday Avenue, Lamont hooked up with fellow pioneer Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown in 1993. Their common efforts under the now iconic Tuff Jam moniker paved the way for the still-popular mix-up of grimey sub-bass and glossy R&B stylings. Tuff Jam really hit its stride in the mid- to late-'90s, having the charts and the remix game on lock. Lamont was also a vital force at the End’s TwiceasNice club night — with UK garage and 2-step, it defined a slice of '90s clubland.
