Born and raised in California, spending her early years between the city of San Jose, the small alpine city of Mount Shasta and the creative hub of San Francisco, The Lady Blacktronika has channelled the trials and tribulations of her youth into her powerful singing voice and Detroit Beatdown music. After meeting producer Matt “Mattski” Avalos at a New Years Eve party, the pair became friends and started to make music together – drawing on the Detroit Beatdown style of mid-tempo deep house with soulful vocals, with Mattski making the beats and The Lady Blacktronika on the mic. After trying to pique the interests of like-minded producers and labels with little success for some time, it was in 2007 when The Lady Blacktronika began producing her own music on Reason, started her Cocaine Recordings label and was picked up by Detroit’s own Mike Huckaby as an artist on the rise.
