“Life is good after a session” is a motto Kai Alce has been abiding by for more than two decades now. Kai Alce spent his childhood in St. Croix; early hip-hop, soca, spiritual jazz and the ’70s disco-inferno aftermath provided the soundtracks to his formative years. He became a bit of a DJ nomad – after learning his chops as a teenager at Detroit’s Music Institute, he became a staple of the ten-year-long reign of DEEP at MJQ, the legendary party he helped get off the ground. Having worked closely with the likes of Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, D. Wynn, Alton Miller and his cousin Chez Damier, he moved to Atlanta and established a strong bond between the house communities of the Motor City and the South. Adding to his resume as a DJ and promoter, he started releasing his own tracks in the early ’00s on labels like Track Mode, Moodymann’s Mahogani, Omar S’s FXHE, Deep Explorer and eventually on his own imprint, NDATL Muzik.
