Like her mythical DC Comics namesake, Athens-based producer Giganta concocts a big speaker-smashing sound. Her heavy sample collages are filled with glitches, bass booms and whimsical melodies, but they are tempered by a stew of classical music (she’s a trained flutist) as well as early ambient influences. Whether performing on analog synthesizers and flute in Poland, or dropping dubplates in London, Giganta walks the fine line between seductive and forceful, like a classic superhero. With her *Force* EP on Werkdiscs, she not only puts Greek dancefloor sounds on the map, but also nods to Greece’s social changes in the face of austerity measures and mass migration, and chooses positivity over pessimism every time.
