Description
You ain’t really house? Farley "Jackmaster" Funk is. He started out in the early 1980s as Farley “Funkin” Keith, and quickly gained a pole position in the Chicago scene. What Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles did for the hedonistic clubs in the Windy City, Farley did on the radio: As part of the legendary Hot Mix 5 radio show on WBMX, he brought the underground sound to the airwaves, showcasing European new wave, Italo disco, classic American boogie and the futuristic, brand-new dance sounds from Chicago and Detroit. Famous for his mixing and cutting styles, incorporating drum machines and doing edits on the fly, Farley was soon on eye level with Hardy and Knuckles, representing the street-style approach to house music. He also spent time in the studio recording sparse drum tracks and DJ tools, such as the *No Vocals Necessary* EP for Trax, and crossover chart hits like "Love Can’t Turn Around."
