On the Floor – DJ Marfox at RBMA Weekender Montréal

“They say I’m fat, but I’m in constant motion”: Those are words of wisdom from the man DJ Marfox, the Portuguese chief of all things hybrid kuduro, who has made his presence felt with a vengeance. Marfox’s ability for astute self-evaluation has rubbed off on his music, as beautifully displayed by the title of his debut EP, _Eu Sei Quem Sou_ (I Know Who I Am). Even before making a name for himself as a solo act, he regulated the streets of Lisbon with his DJs di Ghetto camp and a much-storied compilation of the same name. He is the undisputed champion of Portuguese bass with an African twist; for his EP _Subliminar_, he teamed up with the mighty Enchufada imprint, his *Lucky Punch* EP saw him link with J-Cush's Lit City Trax and his Chapa Cuente 12" on Príncipe brought together fractured kuduro and ghetto-tech sensibilities.
