Part of the Lisbon-based DJ and production crew and label, Príncipe Discos, DJ Firmeza is pushing a future-facing percussive dancefloor sound that has roots in Portugal’s diverse musical and cultural heritage. Melding genres such as kuduro and batida, with the dark and grungy elements of funky house, DJ Firmeza’s style is rooted in complex African and Caribbean polyrhythms. His productions are best shown on his 2015 release for Príncipe Discos, *Alma Do Meu Pai*, which combines the Lisbon ghetto house style with Afro-Portuguese breakbeats.
