Description
Deena Abdelwahed is an experimental musician from Tunisia whose work has long focused on the process of collaboration; she's worked with twisted electronic heads Acid Arab and Morphosis, the French-Lebanese singer and multi-instrumentalist Bachar Mar-Khalifé and experimental hip-hop producer Débruit. With a multi-genre and avant-garde approach to traditional North African sounds, she’s forged kinships with fellow Tunisian musicians, like jazz artist Fawzi Chek-li and the So Soulful group, and electronic producer Zied Meddeb Hamrouni, who introduced her to the World Full of Bass DJ collective. In 2014, Abdelwahed moved to Toulouse, France, building a bridge between continental Europe and North Africa, in her music and collaborative performances. She's taking what’s been termed “The Maghreb Futuristic Spring” forward, signing to French label InFiné and recording new material.
