American dance music’s gay underground is a scene without a center: led by DJs and promoters who are part of a national network as much as their local scenes, and pursue transcendent experiences in future-facing electronic music; putting house, techno and disco at the emotional center of their parties. One of these parties is *Spotlight*, an underground gay dance party that started at Glassell Park in 2012 and has since garnered a reputation for sleaze and sass: beautiful people dancing to trippy house, techno and disco, creating a balance between a club dancefloor and darkrooms designed for maximum all-night impact by artist Chris Kreiling; mazes of booths and gloryholes, bodies bathed in neon light. *Spotlight*’s main DJ and promoter, Chris Cruse, a veteran of the Los Angeles warehouse rave scene, knows just how to whip up the crowd into a sexy frenzy.
