Description
Growing up in Edmonton, Canada, Roland Pemberton began writing rhymes and releasing music independently starting in his early teens. Under the name Cadence Weapon, he's tied his love of rap music with his love for words, playing with them to dramatic, personal effect. By the mid-‘00s, he was nominated for the prestigious Polaris Prize, twice. Aside from Cadence Weapon, Pemberton is best known as the poet laureate of Edmonton, a role that he held for two years and used to promote the literary arts (in his characteristically sharp and playful style). He has released three solo albums and at the same time has continued on his path as a writer, with bylines in Pitchfork, _Wired_ and the _Guardian_, among others. In this session, he switches things up by spinning a sunrise disco set in tribute to his past gigs at The Torn Curtain. Listen back.
