An authority of obscure music in Japan, Chee Shimizu has worked as a DJ, producer and writer in addition to running several record labels during the last 25 years. In 2008, Chee launched Organic Music, a store which is a meticulous curation of the hard to find, genre-spanning releases that he has been introducing to his audiences over the years. His 2013 book Obscure Sound is known as “the Michelin guide for record nerds”. Shimizu releases music from a wide range of artists on his own 17853 Records as well as on Japanism, a label launched in collaboration with HMV Japan.
