Description
New Orleans brings to mind jazz, creole food, inimitable architecture, dayglow alcoholic beverages – but more generally, it’s about good times and a permissive vibe that suffuses everything within the city limits. So while dance music may not be intrinsic to the culture, it fits in great. That’s what Kathi discovered when she relocated to New Orleans from Berlin in 2007. In the intervening years, she’s hosted Tapeworm, a weekly FM radio show dedicated to dance music; helped run DNO Records and Disko Obscura, a pair of record stores and labels operating out of a shared retail space; thrown parties at such (ill-)reputed venues as the Saint and the Phoenix; and, more recently, operated as one-third of Trax Only, with Bouffont Bouffont and Father Figure, whose warehouse-style blowouts have become a regular stop for likeminded American crews like The Men’s Room, NeedlExchange and, of course, Honey Soundsystem.
