When In Training began throwing events in Cleveland about two and a half years ago, they started with a blank slate – there wasn’t a queer dance music scene in the city to speak of. Ohio’s second largest city remains a bit off the beaten path, but the party has quickly gained notoriety for its adventurous music policy, uncompromising ethos and unusual home base: Now That’s Class, a wonderfully dingy dive bar somewhat incongruously outfitted with an excellent soundsystem. On this month’s Honey Soundsystem, In Training masterminds Mx Silkman, Kiernan Laveaux and Father of Two each take turns in the mix, presenting the party’s dark, deeply experimental yet utterly infectious sound – and in conversation with Jackie House, they recount some of the highlights of their run so far, like the night the Midwest’s most legendary fog machine made a debauched cameo.
