Description
Wu Fei is a Chinese-born musician, composer and vocalist whose main instrument is the guzheng, a 21-string zither with a 2,500-year heritage. Classically trained in her native Beijing, she moved to New York and became involved in the city’s downtown improvisational scene. Currently based in Nashville, Wu Fei has diversified her repertoire, writing for choir, string quartet, chamber ensemble, Balinese gamelan and orchestra, as well as the guzheng. In the summer of 2017, she was made a composer-in-resident for the Chatterbird Ensemble, teaching her solo improvisational vocabulary to the group. To date she has released three solo records and several collaborative projects; in 2017, she was featured on French-Canadian free-jazz artist Vincent Bergeron's _Simulacre Occidental_ album, and also on the self-titled EP by the Wu-Force, an avant-garde Appalachian-Chinese folk trio.
