Description
When Cathy Lucas founded her band in 2015, she named it Vanishing Twin as a tribute to her identical twin sister that was lost in utero. The band grew from other projects — Lucas had previously worked with the Horrors, Darren Hayman and Julien Gasc, and on her own Orlando project. Inspired by European library music, jazz, cinema, Italian pop and funk, Vanishing Twin released its debut album in 2016, _Choose Your Own Adventure_, on London-based Soundway, which toyed with the tropes of psychedelic pop. After a 2017 EP titled _Dream By Numbers_, also on Soundway, Vanishing Twin released its 2018 album-length cassette, _Magic & Machines_, on Blank Editions. In this episode of Headphone Highlights, Lucas selects the songs by (mostly) women artists that continue to inspire her own musical efforts, from Annette Peacock and Delia Derbyshire to Dorothy Ashby and Stereolab.
