Formed by Berlin-based conductor André de Ridder in 2013, Stargaze operates as an orchestral collective of classically-trained musicians and composers who collaborate within a network of classical, pop, indie and electronic artists. Beginning with a series of re-interpretations of Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece “In C”, Stargaze commissioned artists outside their immediate realm to reimagine and perform their own interpretations of classical works. Inspired by the cross-pollination in play, they began to program performances around compositions which reinvent contemporary pop and classical music, and bring together different audiences through thought-provoking musical overlaps. The past few years have seen the collective work with electronic producers Matthew Herbert and Koreless, indie-pop artists Julia Holter and These New Puritans, Radiohead guitarist and in-demand film score composer Jonny Greenwood and modern classical composer and musician Nils Frahm, to name a few.
