Moor Mother is a Philadelphia-based artist, musician and activist who utilizes her multi-genre practice to speak about consciousness, identity, blackness and the global socio-political global landscape. Starting to record and release music in 2012 as a solo project, and under the porous, playful of self-defined sounds like “project housing bop,” “slaveship punk” and “blk girl blues,” Moor Mother’s sound is a patchwork quilt of ancestral tales, told through spoken word, poetry and fractured lyricism, and guttural electronics, dissonant textures and fragments of instrumentation. Her 18th solo release, 2016’s *Fetish Bones*, is her most critically lauded to date: a slamming exercise in power electronics, an intense vocalization of what it means to fight to stay alive.
